Sports a big part of OPSU homecoming Saturday

By Scott Puryear

Goodwell, Okla. — As part of the huge 100th anniversary celebration at Oklahoma Panhandle State University this Saturday, it will be the 90th anniversary of Aggie football, and OPSU athletic contests will be a big part of what is shaping up to be a great day for everyone.

At 10:00 a.m. the Lady Aggie volleyball team will take to their home court for a match with Heartland Conference rival Dallas Baptist University. There is no admission charge to the public for the volleyball matches and fans are free to come and go as they watch the Homecoming Parade as it passes by Oscar Williams Fieldhouse.

At noon, the Aggie football team will begin their on-field preparation for the game with Southwestern College and there will be several interesting things happening prior to the game. For example, the football team will do their warm-ups in replica jerseys and headgear from days gone by — yes, including leather helmets. Also, several visiting dignitaries, special friends, and former Aggie football players will be introduced prior to the start of the game. All former OPSU football players are asked to be at the game no later than 12:15 p.m. and to register at the front gate upon entering the stadium.

At 1:00 p.m. the kickoff is set for the OPSU — Southwestern contest and the Aggies WILL be wearing their regular helmets for the game.

At halftime, more special guests will be recognized and fans will also be treated to the annual ceremony of the coronation of the Homecoming King and Queen.

There was to be an Aggie Futures football game following the OPSU — Southwestern game, but that contest has been cancelled.

It will be a great day for everybody at Oklahoma Panhandle State University.
