Austin, Texas — The Oklahoma Panhandle State baseball team was in Texas for the fifth consecutive weekend, and on Friday and Saturday, they played a three game series with Heartland Conference rival St. Edward’s. The Aggies picked up one win in the three game set.
Aggies 5, St. Edward’s 4
In the first game of the series (on Friday) two runs in the top of the first inning got the Aggies started and they held on for a 5-4 victory against St. Edward’s. The Aggies got another run in the second and two more in the fourth, thanks to a two-run triple by shortstop Todd Surdez.
For the game, Surdez had two hits in four tries and three RBIs. First baseman Mike Senter drove in the other Aggie earned run.
OPSU’s Robby Yaussy was the winning pitcher for the second time
this season, as the sophomore went 6 2/3 innings. Swenton Martina finished it off and earned the save.
St. Edward’s 14, Aggies 4
In Friday’s second game, St. Edward’s came up with 18 hits and evened the series at one game each with their 14-4 victory. The Aggies managed just four hits, but got four runs out of them, with outfielder Andy Klaus and Surdez each driving in two.
St. Edward’s 4, Aggies 3
On Saturday, St. Edward’s barely got by the Aggies for a 4-3 win and the Aggies had more hits in the game (nine hits to eight). The game was tied at 3-3 after the Aggie half of the eighth inning, but St. Edward’s picked up the winning run in the bottom of the eighth.
Colton McKithan, Klaus, and Senter had two hits for OPSU while Amir Daou and Klaus drove home the two Aggie earned runs.
With their single win in the three game set, the OPSU season record stands at 4-13 and they will be in Amarillo on Tuesday for a game against West Texas A&M University.
