Guymon basketball gears up for opening week

By Kent Brown

This week will start the winter sports season for Guymon, which means it’s time to hit the hard wood.  It’s basketball time.

Last season, the Tigers varsity boys, led by head coach Tyler Chapman,  finished with an overall record of 9-15.  However, the talented Tigers return four starters and should have an exciting season.

The Lady Tigers girls varsity team, led by  head coach Tim Hofferber, finished 15-10 overall and lost in the regionals.  The lady tigers should have another good season as they hope to make a deeper run in the playoffs.

This week’s slate of games are as follows:

Tuesday, December 1:  @ Beaver – Girls: 6:30 pm /  Boys: 8:00 pm

Thursday, December 3: Orange & Black Classic in Clayton, NM – Girls: 1:00 pm / Boys: 2:30 pm

Note: The Orange & Black Classic is Thursday, December 3 through Saturday, December 5th.  The Friday and Saturday game times will be determined based off of the team’s winning or losing.

If the Lady Tigers win Thursday, they will play Friday at 4:00 pm & if they lose on Thursday, they will play Friday at 1:00 pm.

If the boys win Thursday, they will play Friday at 5:30 pm & if they lose on Thursday, they will play Friday at 2:30 pm.

As for Saturday’s games, the schedule is as follows:

Championship game – Girls: 7:00 pm  /  Boys: 8:30 pm

3rd place game – Girls: 1:00 pm / Boys: 2:30 pm

5th place game – Girls: 4:00 pm / Boys: 5:30 pm

7th place game – Girls: 9:00 am / Boys: 10:30 am
