Helen Eaton, 89

Helen Irene Eaton, 89, lifelong Guymon area resident, died Monday morning, July 12, 2010, at the Morton County Hospital in Elkhart, Kansas.

The daughter of Leon and Dottie Viola (Gurwell) Whitney, she was born August 25, 1920, in Guymon, Oklahoma. Helen was raised on the Beaver River northeast of Guymon. She attended the Guymon school system.

Helen and Joe Eugene Eaton were united in marriage on December 24, 1937, in Hugoton, Kansas. Helen was a homemaker and attended the Nazarene Church. Joe and Helen made their home northwest of Guymon for 55 years until moving to the Morton Co. Assisted Living Center in Elkhart for the past two years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter and son-in-law, Yvonne and Berkey Wehmeier; two granddaughters, Wynona Gail and Wynette Wehmeier; six brothers: Melvin, Ralph, Lawrence, Bobby, Kenneth and Clarence Whitney; and one sister, Laura Mae Parson.

Survivors include her loving husband of 73 years, Joe E. Eaton of the home in Elkhart; one son, Clarence Eaton of Guymon; five grandchildren: Kefty Eaton and wife, LaJanne of Las Vegas, Nevada, Kevin Eaton and wife, Terrie of Amarillo, Texas, Katrina Atkins and husband, James of Amarillo, Texas, Wendall Wehmeier and wife, Sarah of Elkhart, Kansas, and Wayland Wehmeier of Guymon; 15 great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; five sisters: Edna Thomason of Arlington, Texas, Kathryn Smith of Guymon, Madene McCormic of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Dorothy Hall of Salina, California, and Mildred Kenner of Bullard, Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday morning, July 16, at 10:00 a.m. at the Guymon Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Wayne Dawson officiating. Interment will follow in the Hooker Cemetery. Services are under the care of the Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home of Guymon.

The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening, July 15, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. They suggest that memorials be made to the Guymon Church of the Nazarene. Memorials will be accepted at the church office or the Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home, PO Box 1112, Guymon, OK 73942.
