CIMARRON COUNTY– An Arizona trucker is in the Cimarron County Jail after his arrest following a high speed pursuit Friday afternoon. Randy Mussell, 34, is charged with DUI, transporting an open container (of alcohol) and leaving the scene of an accident.
According to reports, late Friday afternoon, a semi-tractor driven by Mussell struck an ODOT mower, west of Boise City. The mower wasn’t badly damaged and its driver Stanley Smoot was not injured. At that time Mussell was westbound on Highway 325.
When challenged by an observer about the collision, Mussell turned the truck around about five miles west of Boise City and drove back toward town at a high rate of speed. Observers estimated his speed at 65 mph.
ODOT Supervisor Lloyd Coble followed the truck so that he would not escape. He reported that Mussell went through a stop sign at the west side of the courthouse, nearly striking a pedestrian. The truck circled the square and left on North Highway 287, with Coble in pursuit. The truck reportedly drove through a construction zone at a high rate of speed and passed vehicles, some in no passing zones.
At this time Boise City Police Chief Dale Harper started from Boise City, with Coble telling Cimarron County dispatch that he estimated the truck’s speed at nearly 100 mph. Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Brandon Bussey, coming from Highway 287 south of Boise City, then entered the pursuit.
Mussell was stopped by Chief Harper, about 16 miles north of Boise City, north of the Beaver River and just south of the Colorado state line. He was removed from the truck by Harper and placed under arrest by Bussey.
