The National Weather Service in Amarillo has issued a freezing fog advisory, which is in effect from 6 PM this evening to noon CST Sunday for all of the Texas and Oklahoma panhandles.
* Timing: fog will develop after sunset this evening… and persist through Sunday morning.
* Visibility: widespread visibilities of a mile or less are expected… but visibilities as low as a quarter mile will be possible.
* Impacts: in addition to rapidly changing visibilities creating hazardous travel conditions… the freezing fog could deposit ice on exposed and elevated surfaces. This… combined with water
refreezing will lead to icy roads and sidewalks.
Precautionary/preparedness actions…
A freezing fog advisory means a very light ice accumulation from predominantly freezing fog is expected. Visibilities will frequently be reduced to around one half mile or less. If driving… slow down… use your headlights… and leave plenty of distance ahead of you. Also… be alert for frost on bridge decks causing slippery roads.
