Candidates file for county school board seats

Several Texas County school districts — Hooker, Goodwell and Hardesty — will hold elections in February to determine who will sit on their respective school boards.

Running for Hooker School District Office No. 5 are Anna ArVel White and Ruth Rollins. Kevin Hofferber is the  lone filer for the unexpired term for Office No. 4.

Vying for Goodwell School District Office No. 5 are A. James Benjamin Jr. and Cory Rose.

Hardesty School District Office No. 5 will be a race between Mitch Tharp and Paul Mayer.

Running unopposed are Mike Johnson for Yarbrough School District Office No. 5; Mitzi Dain for Guymon School District Office No. 5; Kelly Maneth for Tyrone School District Office No. 5, and Roger Valliquette for Straight School District Office No. 1.

There were no filers for Optima School District Office No. 1 and no one in Texas County filed for Keyes School District Office No. 5, although someone did file in Cimarron County and there will be no election.

Filing for Turpin School District in Beaver County Office No. 5 was Aaron Levins. There will be an election between Shelby M. Williams and Frank King for the unexpired term for Office No. 3.

The Board of Education positions at stake will be filled at the annual school election scheduled Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010. If no candidate receives more than 50 percent of the total votes cast in this election, the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes will meet in a runoff election on Tuesday, April 6, 2010.
