By Gary McManus, Associate State Climatologist Oklahoma Climatological Survey Oklahoma’s exceptionally warm weather continued into April following the warmest March on record, and significant severe weather plagued the state right through the month’s final moments. April was not warm enough to earn a number one ranking, but still mustered enough heat to crack the top 10. Here are the preliminary storm reports from southwestern Kansas following the severe weather event on Monday, April 30, 2012, from the National Weather Service in Dodge City. Here’s the preliminary report from the National Weather Service in Amarillo regarding the severe weather in the southern Texas Panhandle on Monday, April 30, 2012. Here are the counties in Oklahoma, Texas and Kansas under a tornado watch until 2 a.m. NOTE: Texas County is NOT on this list at this time — only Beaver County! The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of far southeast Colorado Effective this Monday afternoon and evening from 340 PM until 1100 PM CDT. We’ve been getting these systems it seems fairly regularly since October. The latest storm system dumped around 9 inches of water up in Kay County, as evidenced by the Mesonet’s 3-day rainfall total map. Here are the 8 a.m. rainfall totals on Monday, April 30, 2012, for the Oklahoma Panhandle for the rainy 2-day weekend. Guymon Municipal Airport has recorded .85 of an inch. Other panhandle rainfall totals from Mesonet are: Kenton — .22; Boise City — .24; Goodwell — 1.0; Hooker — .37; Beaver — .24, and Slapout [...] |
