Amarillo — Here’s the daily livestock summary for Friday, Sept. 3, 2010.

                                     CATTLE
Direct Trade: In the direct slaughter cattle trade in the Five Major Marketing Areas, Texas/Oklahoma; Kansas; Nebraska; Colorado; Iowa/Minnesota; Friday trading in the Southern Plains has been at a standstill.  In the Northern Plains and Western Cornbelt trading has been mostly inactive.  Not enough traded sales in any of these feeding regions for a market comparison.  Steers: Live basis; (all Grades: 397 head) 96.50-97.00, weighted average 96.77.  Dressed Basis; (all Grades: 295 head) 152.00-153.00, weighted average 152.59.  Heifers: Live basis; (all Grades: 43 head) 96.00.  Dressed Basis; (all Grades: 0 head). For the week: Texas live sales 2.50 lower.  Kansas live sales 2.50 to 3.50 lower.  Nebraska live sales 2.00 to 3.00 lower.  Dressed sales 1.00 to 3.00 lower.  Colorado live sales 1.00 to 2.00 lower.  Iowa/Minnesota live sales 1.00 to 1.50 lower.  Dressed sales 2.00 to 3.00 lower.

The average live weight of cattle slaughtered in the Texas Panhandle for the
week ending 08-28-2010 was 1255 lbs with 41 percent heifers compared to 1255 lbs
and 44 percent heifers the previous week and 1265 lbs and 42 percent heifers the
same week a year ago.

78.57.  Western Cornbelt 0.98 higher at 68.75-80.00, weighted average price
78.15.  Eastern Cornbelt 0.02 lower at 70.50-83.50, weighted average price
77.32.

   Live Basis (240-280 lbs): National direct barrows and gilts 0.35 higher at
