Daily livestock summary 09/01/10

Amarillo — Here’s the daily livestock summary for Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2010.

                            CATTLE                           
Direct Trade: Slaughter cattle trade in the Five Major Marketing Areas, Texas/Oklahoma/New Mexico; Kansas; Nebraska; Colorado; Iowa/Minnesota; trading in the Texas Panhandle has been slow with moderate demand.  Compared to last week, live sales sold 2.50 lower at 97.00.  In Kansas trading has been slow on light demand.  Compared to Tuesday live sales sold steady to 1.00 lower from 96.00-97.00.  In Nebraska trading and demand has been moderate.  Compared to Tuesday, live sales sold unevenly steady at 97.00 and dressed sales, compared to last week, sold 2.00 lower at 153.00.  In Colorado trading has been inactive.  Not enough sales for a market trend.  In the Western Cornbelt live sales have been slow with light to moderate demand.  Compared to Tuesday live sales sold steady at 96.00.  Not enough dressed sales for a market comparison.  Steers: Live basis; (all Grades: 10,564 head) 95.00-97.00, weighted average 96.37.  Dressed Basis; (all Grades: 7,918 head) 148.00-153.50, weighted average 152.73.  Heifers: Live Basis; (all Grades: 9,031 head) 95.00-97.00, weighted average 96.82.  Dressed Basis; (all Grades: 8,773 head) 151.00-153.00, weighted average 152.92.

Direct Trade:
   Carcass Basis: based on 185 lbs hog carcass with 0.9-1.1 inch back fat and 6
inch square loin/2.0 inch depth plant delivered.  National direct trade barrows
and gilts were 1.57 lower with prices ranging from 70.25-78.38, weighted average
price 76.91.  Iowa-Minnesota was 1.34 lower at 71.00-78.38, weighted average
price 77.92.  Western Cornbelt was 1.28 lower at 70.25-78.38, weighted average
price 77.81 and Eastern Cornbelt was .37 lower at 74.50-78.00, weighted average
price 77.19.

   Live Basis (240-280 lbs): National direct barrows and gilts were 1.32 lower
at 54.97-61.66, weighted average price 60.20.  Iowa-Minnesota was 1.92 lower at
55.25-61.44, weighted average 60.12.  Western Cornbelt was 1.66 lower at 55.04-
61.44, weighted average price 59.99.  Eastern Cornbelt was .96 lower at 54.97-
61.66, weighted average price 60.43.
