    Daily livestock summary 07/30/10

    Amarillo — Here’s the daily livestock summary for Friday, July 30, 2010.

                                         CATTLE
    Direct Trade: In the direct slaughter cattle trade in the Five Major Marketing Areas, Texas/Oklahoma/New Mexico; Kansas; Nebraska; Colorado; Iowa/Minnesota; trading in the Texas Panhandle and Nebraska has been limited on light demand.  In the Texas Panhandle a few live sales sold steady at 93.00 when compared to Thursday.  In Nebraska dressed sales sold steady, with Thursday’s trade, at 148.00.  No live sales in Nebraska for a market test.  So far for Friday in Kansas, Colorado and the Western Cornbelt trading has been inactive.  Not enough traded sales in these feeding regions for a market trend.  Steers: Live basis; (all Grades: 25 head) 93.00.  Dressed Basis; (all Grades: 262 head) 146.00-150.00, weighted average 148.02.  Heifers: Live basis; (all Grades: 994 head) 93.00.  Dressed Basis; (all Grades: 172 head) 146.00-147.00, weighted average 146.51.

    For the week: Texas live sales sold 2.00 lower at 93.00.  Kansas live sales sold
    2.00-2.50 lower from 92.50-93.00 with bulk at 93.00 and dressed sales sold 3.00
    lower at 148.00.  Nebraska live sales sold 2.00-2.50 lower from 92.50-93.00 with
    the bulk at 93.00 and dressed sales sold 1.00-3.00 lower from 147.00-149.00 with
    bulk at 148.00.  Colorado live sales sold 2.00-2.50 lower from 92.50-93.00 and
    dressed sales sold 7.00 lower at 144.00.  Iowa/Minnesota live sales sold 1.00-
    1.50 lower at 93.00 and dressed sales sold steady to 3.00 lower from 147.00-
    150.00 with the bulk at 148.00.

       Compared to last week: Slaughter steers sold steady to .50 lower with
    moderate to light demand.

    full/YG 4-5: 1315-1620 lbs 89.00-92.00.  Choice 2-3: 1210-1485 lbs 90.00-92.00.
    Select 2-3: 1155-1460 lbs 88.00-89.50.
       Slaughter Holsteins: High Choice and Prime 3-4: 1365-1580 lbs 81.00-83.00.

    week ending 07-24-2010 was 1258 lbs with 39 percent heifers compared to 1264 lbs
    and 37 percent heifers the previous week and 1270 lbs and 35 percent heifers the
    same week a year ago.
